Sweet Bonanza pokies: how the tumble and the bombs work, and where to play it

Sweet Bonanza is a 6×5 pokie from Pragmatic Play, released in 2019. There are no paylines: eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid pay, then tumble away and new ones fall in. Four lollipops start 10 free spins, where multiplier bombs worth 2× to 100× land. Below you'll find what Pragmatic Play's own page says, how the maths of a tumble sequence works, a free demo, and the checks a casino passes before I name it as a place Australians can play.

  2. Four, five or six lollipops start 10 free spins and pay 3×, 5× or 100× the bet on the way in.
  3. Bombs land only in free spins, worth 2× to 100×. Every bomb on screen at the end of a tumble sequence is added up and multiplies that sequence's win.

Where Sweet Bonanza is offered to Australians

Same rule as for Wolf Treasure: a casino is listed only after I've opened it from an Australian connection, found Sweet Bonanza in the lobby and read the minimum deposit off the cashier. The where-to-play guide walks through it.

I'm working through the casinos that take Australian players. The first one to pass all four rows goes here with the date I checked it. Meanwhile the free demo costs nothing.

The grid, and why “pays anywhere” matters

Sweet Bonanza has six reels and five rows, thirty positions in all, and no paylines. A symbol pays when eight or more copies of it sit anywhere on the grid, in any pattern. Pragmatic Play’s page puts the bands at 8, 10 and 12 or more, so a bigger cluster is worth more than a small one, and the fruit and candies each have their own scale.

After a paying cluster, those symbols vanish. Everything above them drops, new symbols fall from the top, and the count runs again. That’s the tumble. A single spin can chain three or four tumbles, and every one of them is a separate win added to the total. It also means “no cluster of eight” is the most common result of a spin, and you’ll see plenty of them in a row.

Free spins and the bombs

Lollipops are the scatter. Four, five or six of them in one spin start 10 free spins. The catalogue lists the entry pay as 3×, 5× or 100× your bet, and that 100× for six lollipops is the largest single line in the whole paytable outside the feature.

Bombs appear only in free spins. Each is a multiplier symbol worth anything from 2× to 100×. At the end of a tumble sequence the game adds up every bomb still on screen and multiplies that sequence’s win by the total. The frame above shows a 2× and a 100× in the same spin: that’s 102×, applied once to whatever the tumbles paid. Bombs don’t carry over to the next free spin, which is the main thing separating this game from its 1000 sequel.

Three or more lollipops during free spins award five more, according to the catalogue. The provider’s page doesn’t state the retrigger for the original, only for Sweet Bonanza 1000, so treat the five as “listed” rather than “confirmed” until I’ve seen it in the info panel.

Ante Bet and the feature buy

The Ante Bet raises your stake by 25% and, per the catalogue, doubles the chance of landing four lollipops by adding more scatters to the reels. The feature buy, where a casino allows it, costs 100 times your bet and starts free spins on the spot. Neither changes the RTP in the provider’s favour beyond what the panel shows, and both make the game faster and more expensive per minute. On a $20 deposit at $0.20 a spin, the Ante Bet turns 100 spins into 80. I use it only once I’ve decided the session is about free spins and nothing else.

Return to player: 96.48% on the provider’s page, less at some lobbies

Pragmatic Play’s own page (pragmaticplay.com, checked on 29 September 2026) lists 96.48% for Sweet Bonanza. The catalogue notes that operators can run lower versions of the same game, with the range going as low as 89%. That’s a seven-point gap, and it’s the single most useful thing to check before you deposit anywhere: open the game, tap the “i”, read the RTP line. If it’s not 96.48%, the casino chose a lower build, and you’re free to play the same title elsewhere.

Sweet Bonanza 1000, Super Scatter and Dice

Pragmatic Play has built three more games on this grid. Sweet Bonanza 1000 keeps the look and raises the ceiling: a return of 96.53% on its pragmaticplay.com page (checked 29 September 2026), bombs up to 1,000×, wins up to 25,000×, and the bombs stay on screen through the tumbles before being added up. Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter and Sweet Bonanza Dice reuse the candy art with different scatter and bomb rules; I haven’t pulled their figures from the provider yet, so they get a mention here and a full page later. Sweet Bonanza Candyland is a live game show, not a pokie, and lives at a different table in the lobby.

If the lobby shows several of these side by side, the original is the one with plain “Sweet Bonanza” on the tile and no number or dice.

Pros and cons

For it

The rules fit in three sentences: eight alike pay, lollipops start free spins, bombs multiply. Bets start at $0.20 in the catalogue listing, so a $20 deposit is 100 spins. The provider publishes its RTP on its own page, which many studios don’t. Free spins with a couple of big bombs are the reason the game is everywhere.

Against it

The base game is dry; most spins end with no cluster. Bombs are limited to free spins, and free spins need four lollipops, so a session can be long and quiet. Casinos can run RTP builds well below 96.48%, and only the info panel tells you which one you’ve got. The feature buy at 100× is a fast way to spend a deposit.

My verdict

Sweet Bonanza is a free spins pokie with a tumble base game that mostly pays nothing while you wait. Play it at $0.20 first and count spins to the first four lollipops; that number tells you more about the session than any RTP line. Before you deposit anywhere, check the info panel reads 96.48%, and if it doesn’t, walk to another lobby. Try the demo on this page to see the tumble, read how free spins are valued so a bonus offer doesn’t fool you, and use the where to play guide before you hand over a cent.

Questions people ask

How does Sweet Bonanza pay without paylines?
Count matching symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid. Eight or more of one symbol pay, with bigger clusters paying more. The winning symbols disappear, the ones above tumble down, new symbols fill the gaps, and the count starts again. One spin can pay several times.
How many lollipops do you need for free spins?
Four. Four, five or six lollipop scatters in one spin start 10 free spins and pay 3×, 5× or 100× your bet on the way in, according to the slotcatalog.com listing. Pragmatic Play’s page puts it as 4–6 scatters triggering the bonus game with 10 free spins.
What do the bombs do in Sweet Bonanza?
Bombs are multiplier symbols worth 2× to 100× that only land during free spins. When a tumble sequence ends, every bomb on screen is added together and the total multiplies that sequence’s win. Two bombs of 2× and 100× make 102×.
What is the RTP of Sweet Bonanza?
Pragmatic Play’s own game page shows 96.48%, checked on 29 September 2026. The slotcatalog.com listing notes that operators can run lower builds, down to 89%, so the figure to trust is the one in the info panel at the casino you play.
Is Sweet Bonanza legal in Australia?
Online casinos aren’t licensed in Australia, so no Australian-licensed site offers Sweet Bonanza for money. Offshore casinos that accept Australians do. The In Australia page explains the deposit, withdrawal and tax side; the where to play guide explains how I check a casino.
What's the difference between Sweet Bonanza and Sweet Bonanza 1000?
Sweet Bonanza 1000 is a 2024 sequel on the same 6×5 grid. Pragmatic Play’s page lists an RTP of 96.53%, bombs up to 1,000×, wins up to 25,000×, and five extra free spins whenever three or more lollipops land during the bonus. The original tops out at 100× bombs and 21,100× according to the catalogue.

Read the RTP, cluster rule, free spins trigger and bomb range on Pragmatic Play's Sweet Bonanza page and the Sweet Bonanza 1000 page on 29 September 2026, and took the grid size, max win, Ante Bet and scatter pays from the slotcatalog.com listing the same day. Not yet done: a demo session from an Australian connection with my own screenshots, and the lobby check at casinos that take Australian players.

A commission from a casino never changes the figures on this page or the order of anything on this site.
